Two Action Wake Park riders took podium spots at the 2017 WWA Wake Park National Championship that happened on July 27-30 at BSR Cable Park in Waco, TX.

Scot Ferwerda rode hard in the Masters Division for Features Only. Ferwerda, former Pro Tour boat rider, is known for his technical rail riding and unique style. Ferwerd stomped his run and secured a second place finish. Perhaps the most impressive finish was that of Justin Lublow, who battled back after taking a nasty crash in the semi-finals. Lublow was attempting a wrapped spin when things went south and got tangled in the rope upon landing.

“You can get disqualified if you hold on to the rope after falling for safety reasons,” said Deana Ferwerda, team manager of Action Wake Park. “We started yelling to let go only to realize that he couldn’t because he was tangled up.”

Lublow spent the rest of the day at the hospital not knowing if he could compete in the finals. Luckily, the doctors cleared him after tests came back negative. Lublow came back with a vengeance. The next day Lublow beat out over 60 riders to take a third place finish in the Traditional Intermediate division.

This year’s WWA Wake Park Nationals featured 21 cable parks and just over 900 riders. Action Wake Park brought 14 riders who worked hard all season to earn their spot on the nationals team. It was Team Action’s third season competing at the national level.

“Competing is awesome, but that isn’t what makes it fun for me,” said Scot Ferwerda. “What’s fun for me is standing on the shore, cheering as loud as you can for your team and hanging out with people that have the same passion as you do.”

In the end, the Action Wake Park team finished 7th for the features only competition and 5th in the traditional competition. Over 900 riders and 21 teams from all around the United States traveled to compete at nationals with Orlando Watersports Complex (OWC) taking first place in both features only and traditional competitions as a team.
